Adoptive dads face unique challenges related to their spiritual journey, marriage and children. We give attention to these areas and encourage each other to carefully shepherd our families.
We'd like to return to the topic of shame and dig a bit deeper into this topic. I would suggest the book by Curt Thompson titled, "The Soul of Shame" as a reference for our discussions.
Feelings of shame can have harmful outcomes in our relationships. Most children coming to our homes from other family systems will have a deep core of shame already pre-loaded. It may be that many of us do as well. This hinders building trust and secure attachments.
Shame loves to stay hidden. We will attempt to drag it out of the shadows to help us live in freedom and grow in our parenting capacities.
